Job Description:
QUANTITY SURVEYOR REQUIRED: Brentwood, Essex
Duration: Permanent
Rate for the Quantity Surveyor: £50,000 - £70,000 (Negotiable) per annum
Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic construction team. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing all costs associated with construction projects, ensuring delivery within budget while maintaining the highest quality standards.
Main Duties of the Quantity Surveyor:
- Cost Estimation & Budgeting: Prepare accurate cost estimates, including materials, labour, and preliminaries.
- Tendering & Bidding: Manage tender preparation, review drawings and specifications, and produce detailed cost proposals.
- Contract Administration: Oversee contracts, ensuring compliance and handling variations, payments, and claims.
- Procurement: Source and appoint suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring best value and quality.
- Cost Control: Monitor project costs and cash flow, identifying and addressing any variances.
- Valuations & Reporting: Conduct site valuations and produce regular financial and progress reports.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and implement proactive solutions to mitigate them.
- Final Accounts: Prepare and negotiate final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
Requirements:
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field (RICS chartership preferred but not essential).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Quantity Surveyor role within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of construction contracts (e.g. JCT, NEC) and industry cost databases.
- Proficiency in software such as CostX, Bluebeam, Buildsoft, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong numerical ability with excellent cost evaluation skills.
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of accuracy in financial and project documentation.
- Ability to resolve issues proactively and effectively.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
